Power BI is built to read data. Writeback software adds the missing half: the ability to change data from inside the report and store the change in a governed database.
accoTOOL provides that capability as three free Power BI visuals available on Microsoft AppSource.
What writeback software does
It renders an editable grid or input control on top of your semantic model, validates what users type, and commits the result to SQL Server in real time, with user, timestamp and version recorded on every row.
The three accoTOOL visuals
- accoPLANNING: budgeting, forecasting and scenario entry in a multi-dimensional grid.
- accoMASTERDATA: governed creation and maintenance of dimension members and attributes.
- accoCOMMENT: threaded comments, approvals and attachments tied to the exact data point.
Writeback turns Power BI from a place where decisions are discussed into the place where they are recorded.
Architecture
No middleware and no second semantic layer. The visual talks to your SQL Server, Azure SQL or Fabric SQL database using the security model you already operate. Cloud, hybrid and on-prem deployments are all supported.
Getting started
Install from AppSource, point the visual at a writeback table, and start a 30-day trial. Most teams have a working planning grid on an existing report in a single afternoon.
